About This Site

NPB Magic Number turns the NPB Central and Pacific League standings race into numbers you can act on: Climax Series odds, magic numbers by place, head-to-head records, and a dedicated page for every club.

Data Source & Refresh

Standings and head-to-head records come from npb.jp's official, freely published standings tables - basic stats only (wins, losses, ties, winning percentage, games back), nothing from NPB's paid NPB BIP data business. Results are cached for 30 minutes to limit load on npb.jp, and every page shows its as-of time. In the off-season this shows the prior season's final standings and switches to live data automatically once the new season starts.

How the Analysis Works

• Magic numbers - calculated from NPB's winning-percentage system (ties excluded from both wins and losses), assuming worst-case outcomes. See the magic number guide for the formula.
• Auto-generated summaries - written by rule from the standings and head-to-head numbers alone, and they update automatically as data changes.

Why No Logos

This site doesn't use club logos, emblems, or player photos - just team colors and short names. The standings table is also its own design, not a copy of npb.jp's layout.
